txter is a new SMS based app on txtweb.com platform which is based on status updates somewhat similar to twitter. Though txter doesn’t come up with full functionality like that of twitter but provides an easy to use SMS based interface for mobile users who wants to connect through twitter like sites and tweet.
txter has its own terminology for its platform. Users (aka people) are known as txters and posting of updates is termed as txtering. They don’t mention users by @, they star them *; they don’t hash-tag topics, they under-mark (_) them for linking. It would be interesting to know what a txter like app can do on a SMS based platform. Let us go through the features it has currently implemented and a list of some planned ones in near future.
Starting with the platform on which txter is residing, it is SMS based platform by txtweb.com. txter can be accessed by sending @txter to one of txtweb.com’s connecting number. Once you send @txter for the first time from your mobile, you are taken into the world where you can connect with people, celebrities, friends, latest news updates and more. There you go! and You receive a succcessful registration message (Oops! how come I got registered..this is the question that comes to mind..see how easy it is to get started). You continue by providing a username which would be your identity at txter (at this time you cannot change your username).
Once you are able to select a user name successfully, you would now be taken to home page. On home page, you will find your stats i.e. number of followers, number of followings, messages send and received, mentions for you, number of status updates, profile views etc. Not only the count but who all are followers, people you are following, what message you have send and received and what all status updates have been done by you can also be checked.
You have the option to update your profile where Name, Email, Mobile, a short Bio can be added and updated. Searching is another cool option where one can search for people and updates. Provide a name to search for people and it would show you people with this name. Also, you can search people by providing some interest and it would be searched in people’s bio. With this you can search for people with similar interests. Similarly, a search can be performed on status updates.
After searching people, you can view their profile and from there you can view their status updates, followers, followings, mentions, profile views and can send them a message, follow/un-follow them.
And the most important is status updates. You do it to keep others posted on what you are up to, what is happening around you or what you have just heard. In status updates you can mention people by using star (*). And can also, under-mark (_) a topic.
Another cool feature worth mentioning is when someone just mentioned you, followed you or messaged you. Do you want to get a alert or there are so many alerts that you want to stop. Update your alerts from settings zone. Set SMS alerts on/off for messages, mentions and new followers.
After already being packed with so many features there are still some more cool features planned for future. They are New Topics, Hot Topics, Trending Topics, search based on locations and creating lists etc. Let us wait and watch how cool they are when these new ones gets rolled out.
