Freedom 251 – Is it new category of Mobiles: Use, Reuse & Throw?

When mobile phones can become so cheap as low as just INR 251 and that too as a smartphone then it would create a buzz in the market. With lots of feature build in along with front & back camera and some external hardware (earphones) bundled then it would be a good deal at 251 if the performance is good.

Once the company starts delivering Freedom 251 smartphone to consumers then actual performance and usability will come to know. With its specification if it is able to deliver good performance as it states then another category of mobile phone would emerge. That would be Use, Resuse and Throw (or Donate). It won’t be like a one time use term i.e. Use & Throw but temporary and in emergency.

At such a low price it would solve many purposes. Couple of them would be everyone is connected and in case of emergency. Taking up these 2 purposes following can be achieved. At such a low cost more people can afford the mobile phone aka smartphone which has features like Bluetooth, Wifi etc. More people would be able to connect to telecom and internet world. One can avoid high cost of phone repairing for expensive phones. The case of emergency can be explained by following example. You are on the go, travelling or outside somewhere. Your expensive phone stops responding, is not working, got damaged or is out of battery. Just buy this smartphone from any shop nearby, insert the Sim Card and you are ready with another phone. This would make it a Use, Resuse (for some time) & Throw (or donate).

Currently this seems to be sell online only item. But if it is so cheap can it be sold at every shop like our grocery items? It is so cheap there would be less thefts of this phone. At a price of just 251 people can donate this phone as well to needy.

The thing to see would be what is the performance, the distribution system of Freedom 251 and who all are buying. What would be repairing cost. Will it be more than 251 or less. Should an owner of Freedom 251 smartphone go for repair or buy a new one? Would some telecom company tieup for this phone and give a free sim and some talktime?
