Digital Intelligent Parking System Abstract

Overview

A digital parking system for resource optimization (parking space) and minimal human resources. Digital Intelligent Parking System (DIPS) provides live information on free slots, nearest slots, reserved slots and under maintenance slots along with assisting in getting a nearest parking slot easily. DIPS can be implemented with minimal software and hardware resources. It can be implemented in organizations having digital access cards. It is useful for parking slot allocation and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Parking zones (single or multiple)
  • Kiosks (3 Types) – Entry, Exit, Intermediate
  • Parking Ticket
  • Guards
  • Digital Boards (optional)

How it works

Current Scenario

Let us consider a scenario where 1 parking zone is available with 2 floors. Upper Parking (UPA) and Lower Parking (LPA). There is single entry. Entry from Main Gate to lower parking area then to upper parking area and then exit. UPA is near to Building 1 and LPA is near to Building 2.

An employee enters in the organization through Main Gate (Gate 1). He check-in using his identity card and is authorized to enter the campus. He goes to LPA and looks left and right for an empty slot while driving. If no slot is available he further moves to UPA and looks left and right for an empty slot (while driving). On occasions employee doesn’t get a free slot and has to make an exit from Gate 1.

On Gate 1 there a movable physical board is present showing ‘No Parking’ in case security guard assumes that no free slots are available. This board is placed/removed from the place by Guard. Sometimes it happens that free slot is not available and there is no such notification present on Gate 1 or vice-versa.

Steps can be summarized as:

  • Employee reaches Gate 1
  • Parking Full/Available board is present (manually placed/removed by guard)
  • Parking availability status by above board may or may not be correct
  • Employee authenticates himself
  • Employee enters LPA
    • Looks for free slot (looking left and right while driving)
    • Slot available
      • Parks the Car and goes to Building 2
    • Slot not available
      • Goes to UPA
        • Looks for free slot (looking left and right while driving)
        • Ask from people/guard in Parking Area about a Free Slot
        • Slot available
          • Parks the Car and goes to Building 2 (Building 2 is bit far from this Parking Area)
        • Slot not available
          • Waits for some time to see if some car is going out
          • Exit from Gate 1
            • Re-authentication at Gate 1
